Iowa’s v. Missouri

When it comes to street naming, Iowa has a leg up on its southern neighbor Missouri. Near Fairfield, Iowa, going east on HW 34, just before reaching the town, there is a series of crossroads that are named alphabetically, starting with Cedar Avenue. The photo above is of the intersection of HW 34 and Filbert Avenue. Meanwhile in Missouri, those who name roads are much less creative. Instead of using proper names, they use mostly unimaginative numbers or single/double letters. One example is south of the Iowa border on HW 27/61 (check Bob Dylan) where the plain HW C intersects with HW 27/61. I wish there were more creative people working in the DOTs of the various states of the union.
