We were having a light lunch of a pezzo di pizza under the arch of the Aqua Virgo aquaeduct around noon on January 5 in Rome when the church bells next door let loose, and so did a hound somewhere nearby in one of the buildings. The concert between bells and dogs, as long as it lasted, was strangely divine, as was the pizza. Our guess is that the dog did not like the bells. Perhaps Pavlov’s dog did not like the whistle either?
